I'm really close to throwing that game out of my window. With the newest update, it doesn't even let me open the game! It just crashes straight up! I updated it as many times as it wanted in hope to be able to play soon. If you are running Catalina make sure that you allow Origin access to external drives when prompted, and the game if it prompts for it.
Open Origin and go to Origin > Preferences > Installs & Saves and change the game library location to your external. It didn't even let me try to type in my new code! What it sad was: Try reinstalling, purchasing a new copy and a new code and then trying again (What I actually did). Move the Sims 4 app from your Applications folder to the external. It installed fine, but when I tried to play it, I had to wait about 20 minutes for it to tell me that the code is invalid. I deleted the old game on my mac and installed the new one. As it commanded me to type in the code, it appeared to be invalid so I went ahead and just bought my own copy of Spore.
